Hosted at the stunning Innisfree Farm & Botanical Garden in Royston, this unique monthly program offers children aged 10 and older the opportunity to deepen their connection with the natural world through the art and science of herbalism.
Innisfree Farm, founded over a decade ago by Chanchal Cabrera and Thierry Vrain, is internationally recognized for its commitment to reconnecting people with nature through herbal medicine, nutrition, and shinrin-yoku (forest bathing). With seven acres of beautifully cultivated botanical gardens nestled alongside the forests of the Trent River, this location provides a perfect setting for hands-on learning and exploration.
Meeting one Friday per month, the Herbalist program immerses participants in the wonders of plants and their many uses. Guided by Danu Education Director Allie, this program offers a yearlong journey through the seasons, exploring the rich traditions and practices of herbalism and plant lore.

Activities Include:
-
Gardening & Harvesting: Learn to propagate, tend, and harvest herbs while understanding their growth cycles and ecological significance.
-
Medicine Making: Prepare seasonal remedies like teas, tinctures, salves, and infused oils, gaining skills in the traditional use of plants for health and wellness.
-
Natural Crafting: Explore the creative side of plants by making natural dyes, crafting with plant fibres, and creating meaningful, nature-inspired art.
-
Nature Connection: Each session incorporates storytelling, circle sharing, singing, mindful observation, and land-based play, building a strong sense of connection with the land and with each other.

This program emphasizes experiential learning, curiosity, and community, creating a space for young people to explore the intricate relationships between plants, people, and the earth. Participants will develop not only practical skills but also a deep respect for the interconnectedness of plants and the broader ecosystem.

Due to the focused nature of this program, it is open to children aged 10 and older. All instruction is provided by Danu staff, not Innisfree staff. No prior experience with herbalism is required.

This program is led by Danu Director, Allie.
