Accessible Counselling Services
Rooted in Relationship and Place
Pay-what-you-can counselling for youth (age 10+), adults, couples and families.

Danu Folk School is growing its ecology of care. As part of this next unfolding, we are moving towards offering accessible counselling services grounded in relationship, nervous system awareness, and connection to the living world.

Sessions are currently offered through Seahorse Counselling as part of a supervised practicum and are available on a pay-what-you-can basis, making support accessible regardless of income.

About the Counsellor

Founder of Danu Folk School, Kester Reid, is currently completing a Master’s degree in Counselling Pyschology, now entering the practicum phase of training.
His pathway into counselling has grown organically from years of land-based education, mentoring, community work, and a deep interest in how humans heal and develop in relationship with place.

Kester’s approach is informed by:

-
Nature-based culture and education
-
Trauma-informed and nervous-system-aware practice
-
Strengths-based and relational counselling frameworks
-
Somatic awareness and experiential learning
-
Influences from depth psychology and soul-centred work, including the Animas Valley Institute and the teachings of Bill Plotkin
-
Training in Indigenous healing lineages which continue to shape a respectful, relational, and earth-honouring approach to care

At the heart of his work is a belief that healing does not happen in isolation — it happens in relationship, over time, and often in dialogue with the more-than-human world.

All practicum sessions are provided under professional supervision through Seahorse Counselling, in Courtenay.
Why Counselling at Danu?

Danu Folk School has always been about more than programs. It is a place where learning happens in relationship — with land, with culture, with one another, and with ourselves. Counselling is a natural extension of this work.

Many of us are navigating complex terrain: stretched nervous systems, changing family dynamics, grief for what has been lost, and uncertainty about what is emerging. At the same time, we are carrying deep strengths — intuition, creativity, resilience, and a longing for connection and meaning.

This counselling offering is designed to support people right where they are, helping to create steadier ground beneath their feet so that growth, learning, and relationship can continue to unfold.
Looking Ahead
This practicum offering is the first step toward a longer-term vision: integrating nature-based counselling more fully into Danu Folk School’s programming for children, youth, adults and families.
In time, this will include outdoor sessions, land-based therapeutic groups, and programming that weaves together counselling, ecology, and cultural learning.
For now, the invitation is simple:If you are curious, in need of support, or feel a quiet yes — you are welcome.
