The Farm Monthly Program offers children a dynamic opportunity to immerse themselves in the rhythms of the land and deepen their connection to nature, community, and self. Guided by the 8 Shields “core routines” of nature connection, this monthly Friday program invites children to explore the interplay between the wild and cultivated landscapes of a working farmstead.

Each session balances time spent exploring the natural surroundings with hands-on experiences that reflect the life and cycles of the farm. Whether wandering in the woods, playing games in the fields, tending gardens, telling stories, or sitting quietly around a campfire, students are encouraged to cultivate curiosity, wonder, and an intimate relationship with the land.

Program Highlights:

-
Nature Connection: guided activities based on 8 Shields routines, including animal tracking, plant identification, sensory awareness games, and sit spots to foster mindfulness and deep observation.
-
Skills and Crafts: seasonal hands-on projects like gardening, cooking, food preservation, and crafting in a covered space, using natural and farm-sourced materials.
-
Community and Reflection: time around the campfire for storytelling, sharing reflections, and connecting with peers in a supportive, joyful environment.

The Farm Monthly program celebrates the cycles of nature and farm life, blending curiosity-driven exploration with purposeful, collective tasks that engage young minds and hearts. By integrating nature connection routines with the practical wisdom of food cultivation and community, students are inspired to develop resilience, gratitude, and a sense of belonging to the land and each other.

Co-led by Danu directors Allie and Dani, the Farm Monthly promises a year of foodie fun and forest adventure.

*Please note there are no longer goats at the farm, but there are ducks, chickens, and a rotating cast of friendly dogs.
"Wayfinders has deepened our girls' sense of wonder, delight, and curiosity about the living world around them. Engaging in skills, games, songs, myths, and ecology with outstanding, passionate educators/mentors amongst the trees and wetlands: every child should experience such a rich tapestry of learning."
